Things To Do in Vegas This Winter

Wintertime in Vegas is awesome! Unlike other areas of the U.S., winters are generally without snow and freezing temperatures. That means you can still do a lot of things outdoors and have a blast. If you’re searching for ‘winter activities near me,’ look no further than Las Vegas. Grab a vacation package deal that includes air and hotel. Then book a fun time with Sky Combat Ace to fly a plane!

Will the weather be good for flying in winter?

Las Vegas wintertime temperatures remain pretty steady, rarely going above 77 degrees Fahrenheit or below 48 degrees. On average, expect a cool but not cold 61 degrees. The sky rarely gets cloudy, with no more than 39% coverage. And forget about rainfall, as the chance is well below 10% in the winter. That makes it a great time to visit Las Vegas.

  • December 1st historically has the clearest day of winter
  • January is still a balmy 60 degrees Fahrenheit on average
  • February warms up to an average of 67 degrees

What can you do in Las Vegas in winter?

You might be surprised at all the fun things to do, so look at this list we compiled and see what piques your interest. We’re focusing on outdoor activities because there’s way more to Vegas than staying inside a temperature-controlled hotel. We specifically have suggestions for the adrenaline junkie and outdoor adventurer.

Here’s a list of eight things you can do in the winter months in Las Vegas

  1. Fly a plane with Sky Combat Ace: Go for the adrenaline rush — you’ll be amazed at how flying a plane or a ride-along with an experienced pilot feels. Check out our various 3-hour rides in the sky. Don’t worry, there are dual flight controls in the planes, so the flight instructor keeps you safe. You’ll get the training you need for this unique adventure, which will thrill you to the core!
  2. Go hiking at Red Rocks Canyon: Winter is an excellent time to visit the beautiful National Conservation Area, less than 30 minutes from the Strip. The $15 entrance fee gives you all-day parking and access to all the trailheads. Calico Basin is top-rated for its many hiking trails that offer excellent desert landscape scenery.
  3. Discover the brand-new mountain biking trails in Lee Canyon: Pick a single-day pass with equipment rental and experience downhill thrills through spectacular forests. Alternatively, Lee Canyon has ski and snowboarding trails on Spring Mountain, a short distance away.
  4. Kayak on the Black Canyon Water trail: Only 45 minutes away from the Strip, you can take a guided kayak tour to show you all the marvelous waterways of the Colorado River. There are 30 miles to discover waterfalls, secret canyons, and hot springs. See the luscious green canals of Emerald Cave.
  5. Glide smoothly around on a unique outdoor ice skating rink: The Cosmopolitan hotel turns its 4,200 square-foot pool into a winter wonderland each year. Located at their Boulevard Tower, the ice skating rink offers fire pits where you can make s’mores treats and listen to music outdoors while you skate.
  6. See the lights: Speaking of winter wonderlands, Las Vegas has its own Christmas-time offerings for the whole family. Drive over to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway to see the 5 million glittering lights scattered through 2.5 miles. Of course, if that’s a bit too tame, you can try your skills behind the wheel of a GT racing car on a dream racing adventure.
  7. Run with Santa: Put on a Santa suit and join the annual Santa Run charity event on December 2nd. It’s sure to get your heartbeat pumping with a smile on your face, all for a good cause. Register for the fun event in advance, or just come out to watch the hundreds of people in Santa suits on a beautiful winter day in Vegas.
  8. See Vegas from the top down: Get an expansive view of the entire Las Vegas Valley from the top of the Strat Hotel. Rising 1,149 feet up in the air, the Observation Tower is the tallest freestanding building in the United States. While you’re up there, take one of their daring thrill rides: the Big Shot Sky Jump or the X-Scream roller coaster. Both rides are not for the faint-hearted as they propel you over the edge, weightlessly, shooting you 160 feet in the air at 45 mph.
